Seekers

The Seekers

1 History
Humanity had descended into chaos after the rising of the Primes and subsequent genocidal Cleansing. During the Cleansing, hordes of humans were driven underground to stay hidden from the rampaging Primes. Thousands died while in hiding, from disease in being communally confined in tunnels or from accidents such as cave-ins and floods. The humans had to dig much deeper to stay completely hidden from the Primes as any who were found even close to existing tunnels were brutally slaughtered. Underground, they found abundances of precious gems and minerals; metal ore they had never seen the like of. Slowly, the humans were able to rebuild what was left of their civilisation.

Several years after the Cleansing, the surviving humans had built several underground strongholds around the world. Their excavation works eventually led to their discovery of a sentient species called Elementals. The Elementals were ancient beings, obsessed with energy. Elementals were especially attuned to certain minerals called Fragments. The Elders, humans whom were in charge of rebuilding the human civilization deduced that these Fragments were part of a larger whole. Keystones were the formation of such Fragments. The Elders believed that finding the keystones would be the solution to reclaim their entire civilization above ground. Thus, this continual search for Fragments led to the eventual naming of their race; Seekers.

2 Description
Seekers are human beings who mainly live underground. They are master crafters and engineers. Most of their technology has been created to allow them to survive the harsh conditions of living underground and being constantly at war with the Primes. The Seekers mainly use steam-powered machinery and equipment due to the large abundance of thermal energy beneath the surface of the Earth. The Seeker's discovery of Elemental beings and Fragments have allowed them to augment their technology with the energy of the Fragments.

3 Culture
Seeker culture is based almost entirely on the art of metalworking and ore mining. A seeker society is made up of a variety of professions, each one similar in skills but different in function. Seekers also widely make use of Automatons to improve their quality of life.

3.1 Professions

Each Seeker clan has at least one Chief of Profession. They work closely with the Magnates of their respective clans for the betterment of their industry.

3.1.1 Ingenieurs
Inventors and engineers of the Seekers. They specialise in creating Automatons and equipment for the Seekers.

3.1.2 Industrialists
Industrialists manage trade between Seeker clans and mining operations. They conduct trade between clans, allowing an exchange of metal ore and technology.

3.2.3 Masons
The builders and architects of the Seekers, they specialise in creating tunnel networks that lead to other Seeker clans or important locations. They are also the main planners and builders for Seeker strongholds.

3.2 Automatons

Seeker Automatons are mainly steampowered via a built in engine or attached externally. They serve a variety of purposes, from military to economic.

3.1.1 Big-Bens
These are the main support Automatons of the seeker military. They were initially built to be heavy lifters however their strength and durability allowed them to have a dual function as frontline men for Seeker armies. They are able to grab or club adversaries with their mechanical limbs. The tall frames of Big-Bens allow them to have a long reach but also make them vulnerable when extending. They are able to increase their durability by withdrawing their limbs into a smaller configuration whereby less of the vulnerably hydraulics are exposed. They are able to pummel opponents at close range in this configuration.

3.1.2 Strong-Arms
These are the second biggest of Seeker Automatons. They serve as guards for Seeker strongholds and escorts for Seeker trade caravans. Strong-Arms are often seen equipped with gigantic tower shields and pikes. Their pikes mainly serve as a static deterrent rather than a weapon as their range of motion is limited. However, Strong-Arms are able to use their shields to deadly effect. As a barricade, their shields can take a barrage of hits before being even dented. They also use their shields in formation to break enemy lines and slam with enough force to disarm and maim most opponents. Engraved on every Strong-Arm's arm is the quote, "The Best Offense Is A Killer Defence."

3.1.4 Drill-Bits
3.1.5 Harvesters

5 Military
Seeker military is based largely on the use of Automatons and divided into vocation which are trained in the use of specially made equipment to counter the Primes. Seeker clans usually field only one core army led by a Magnate. There are two other ranks of command; Captains and Ensigns which field a combination of Automatons and troops, up to 200 and 50 respectively.

5.1 Vocations
5.1.1 Mechanics

Mechanics are the field engineers of the Seekers. They are able to conduct quick repairs on damaged Seeker Automatons and equipment. They are well armoured as Mechanics tend to experiment and improve on their own gear. Their detachable welding arm is able to lightly burn enemies and blind them if necessary.

5.1.2 Punchies

Punchies are the light assault troops of the Seekers. Their sets of power gloves and boots allow her to charge, jump and hammer at her enemies in quick succession. Due to the already excessive weight of the boots and gloves, Punchies can only carry light armour on them or their gear would malfunction under the extra weight. Punchies are often used in hit-and-run squads to attack valuable Prime targets.

5.1.3 Clockworks

Clockworks are the Seeker's shock troops. Their suits allow them to adapt by transferring power through a network of gears and hydraulics located on their backs and attached to their suit's limbs. They use their arms to crush opponents by bear hug. They can transfer power to their lower limbs to travel much quicker however this depletes their arm strength, causing them to rely on steam bursts to scald enemies. They carry medium armour as a form of protection due to their combat proximity to foes.
